**\n\nMaple heritage\, history\, lore\, and education is the main focus fo
r the HGSSC's Taste and Tour experience at the Somerset Historical Center\
, where visitors can learn about maple sugaring techniques from the earlie
st records through the present day. The weekend includes activities for ch
ildren and adults and features a new 'Maple Meander' throughout the Visito
r's Center Exhibit Hall. Visitors can complete the activity book using inf
ormation from the exhibit and demonstrations and gain a greater knowledge
and understanding of the maple industry in Somerset County. \n\nOther acti
vities include fill the keeler with water challenge\, follow the sugar wat
er through the tubing activity\, tap a maple tree the early way\, and gues
s the number of droplets in the jar of sugar water with a prize for the pe
rson guessing the closest number.\n\nThere will be demonstrations of craft
s that supported the maple industry such as coopering and scrub brush maki
ng\, an historical overview of the industry in Somerset County and maple e
quipment. Visitors can also sample freshly stirred maple sugar\, that 'too
thsome' taffy treat known locally as spotza\, maple popped kettle corn\, a
nd burnt sugar cake.\n\nAdmission to the Maple Taste and Tour is FREE and
is held in cooperation with the Somerset Count
y Maple Producers Association. The Society stop is one of more than 20
maple sugar camps visitors can enjoy. Hours are from 10:00-4:00\, Saturda
y and Sunday. The Somerset Historical Center is located 4 miles north of S
omerset on Route 985. From Somerset\, take route 601 north to route 985. W
e are within 5-6 miles of Baer Bros. maple sugar camp on the Maple Taste a
nd Tour trail.\n\n
