A look at baseball history from the city that created the first World Series. Presented by Speakers from the Heinz History Center. Join us for a special presentation from the Heinz History Center on the history of baseball, Saturday, May 11th from 2pm to 4pm.

Presenter Jim Haller is a long-standing and highly respected member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), and a fountain of information on America’s favorite pastime. His presentation, “Growing Up With Baseball in Pittsburgh,” is about his lifelong passion for baseball and following the Pittsburgh Pirates and their many memorable players and seasons. It is a joy for all those who remember the World Series winning teams of 1960, 1971, and 1979. But Jim also taps into the boyhood memories of growing up on Pittsburgh’s North Side and following teams that did not make the Pennant race – when the real joy in baseball was found in a neighborhood pick-up game.

Mr. Haller has logged over 2,300 hours of service at the Heinz History Center, where he serves in many capacities: as a Concierge for special programs and events; as a Docent (a Docent is a trained and certified museum tour guide) for both school and adult tours both at the History Center in the Strip District and the Ft. Pitt Museum at the Point; and as a Heinz History Center Ambassador who takes the Center’s stories on the road. He is also a Navy veteran.

Pittsburgh has a rich baseball history, which includes the distinction of hosting the first World Series game in 1903. The presentation in Somerset will be a delightful exploration for anyone who loves baseball. Bring your friends, family, or little league team for an entertaining look at this uniquely American past-time.
